DOOLEY, Luther - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

Waynetown - Luther Dooley, 58, of Wingate, employee of the Montgomery County Highway Department, was found dead on his weed mower along the county road about five miles east of Waynetown, about 5:15 p.m. Monday, (June 26, 1950) Mrs. Dan Harkrider, resident of the community, found Dooley slumped over the wheel of the tractor-powered mower. Apparently realizing that he was seriously ill, Dooley had driven the tractor-mower to the side of the road. Dr. J. B. Griffith, Crawfordsville, acting for the county coroner, said death was due to a heart attack or apoplexy. He was born Aug 9, 1891, in Kentucky, the son of Stephen and Elizabeth Hart Dooley. He came to Montgomery County at the age of 18 years. He was married Feb 2, 1915, to Iona Jackson. Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Hugh Dooley, Crawfordsville, and Richard Dooley, Indianapolis; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel May Stephens and Mrs. Virginia McIntosh, Indianapolis, and Miss Phyllis Dooley, at home; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Dooley; two brothers, Hughie and Tilford Dooley; and a sister, Miss Fetna Dooley, all of Biscoe, Arkansas, and three other sisters Mrs. Mary Rice, Cushing, Okla., Mrs. Nora Flannery and Mrs. Pearl Flannery, both in California. Services will be at 2 p.m. (DST) Thursday at Center Christian Church. The Rev. Homer Hunsinger, pastor of Wingate Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, northeast of Waynetown, with Grenard and Servies Funeral Home in charge. The body will be taken to the family residence Wednesday.
